Plastic-bag ban could go statewide

Shoppers adjusting to the county’s only plastic-bag ban could be at the forefront of a statewide shift as the Senate is set to vote this week on Senate Bill 405, which would phase out plastic shopping bags.

In Solana Beach, where the bag ban was adopted a year ago, shoppers can be seen making their way to supermarkets, sporting goods shops and other retailers with armfuls of reusable bags. If they don’t use their own bags, they can get a paper bag from the stores — but only after paying 10 cents per bag.
