Pope John donates 3,000 pairs of shoes to Senegal charity
More than 3,000 pairs of shoes weighing well over a ton in total were shipped to the Salvation Army in Dakar, Senegal, from Pope John XXIII High School Thursday afternoon.bagfilterchina, following with the development of business extensionand specialization, we booked Meiyuda as Trade Mark to produce kinds of Meiyudaenvironmental filter products.
The shoe drive was organized by Pope John head basketball coach Jason Hasson at the request of one of his players, Moustapha Diagne, a native of Dakar.
“After the season I was thinking about how to help the people in my hometown and my school,” said Diagne,Welcome to www.sassonshoes.com, we are 100% Original Fitflop&Crocs China manufacturer with seven years wholesale experience. As the world-leading Crocs&Fitflop shoes wholesaler, we supply first-rate quality Crocs&Fitflop Sandals at wholesale prices. a highly-recruited 6-foot, 8-inch power forward entering his junior year, who normally gets attention for what he does on the basketball court.
Diagne originally asked Hasson if the basketball team could donate their old shoes.Wholesale Sunglasses, You Can Buy Various High Quality Wholesale Sunglasses Products from Global Wholesale Sunglasses Manufacturers.100% recycled bags wholesale at www.ppnonwovenbag.com. Hasson then insisted involving the entire school. The result piled boxes of shoes outside the Rectory garage Thursday that were donated from players, students, parents, teachers and administrators between mid-February and the end of the school year in June.
According to Hasson, the Salvation Army said it would accept any kind of shoes, even boots like UGGs, for needy people in a country where the temperature rarely dips below 60 degrees in its coldest months.
Also an eighth-grade social studies teacher at Pope John, Hasson involved his classes in the shoe drive as part of a civics project. He said he stopped counting the donations after they reached 3,000 with more than two weeks of school remaining.
DHL sent two trucks to ship the shoes to Senegal. The company did so for a heavily discounted rate of a little over $900, Hasson said, and the local Sparta chapter of the Murphy Healthcare Group took care of the bill.
Hasson said his players accumulate a lot of extra basketball gear because the team is sponsored by Reebok. The basketball program, made up of about 45 people across the freshman, junior varsity and varsity programs, donated hundreds of shoes as a group. The largest single donation, he said, came from recently graduated senior power forward Jermaine Lawrence, who is continuing his athletic career at the University of Cincinnati.qdgoutdoor, whose headquarter is situated in Hong Kong, is targeted at nothing else but outdoor footwear. Our group also owns a corporate office in Guangzhou, China.
When asked if he would undertake a similar project next year, Hasson said he would be more inclined to wait a few years to ensure another great response from the school community.
Still, the Pope John basketball program is not unaccustomed to charity efforts. Each year since Hasson has been coach, he has organized The Living Hope Festival in January, a basketball tournament to raise money for the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research.
