Children used as part of alleged string of thefts at Tanger



Two women charged with felony larceny and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile on Saturday managed to steal items from multiple stores at Tanger Outlets in Mebane before being caught by an employee of Sunglass Hat, according to police.

Assistant Chief Allen Byrd of the Mebane police said officers responded to a larceny at Sunglass Hut at 1:27 p.m. after an employee saw one of the juveniles running from the store after taking a pair of sunglasses. Police believe one of the adult females was in the store at the time.

The Sunglass Hut employee provided a description of the suspects to the responding officers, who located Kittrell and recovered stolen items on her person, Byrd said. After further investigation, police identified Douglas through video surveillance and found her in a vehicle in the outlet’s parking lot. Upon arrest, police called one of the girls’ family members and released the children to him.

According to warrants, Douglas and Kittrell stole items valued at $274 from Carter’s, $100 from Osh Kosh B’Gosh, $105.95 from Gap, $269.90 from Sunglass Hut, $103.91 from Gymboree, $40.96 from Papaya, $153.92 from Nike and $119.85 from Skechers.
