Borough Manager Richard J. Sichler has been in negotiation with Western Berks and said the borough could save $35,000 to $45,000 by making the switch.

The only issue is the Poplar Neck Bridge in Cumru Township. The 96-year-old bridge over the Schuylkill is the only means of access to the landfill.

PennDOT lowered the bridge's weight limit to 32 tons early this year. It raised it back to 35 tons after an April 2 inspection revealed steel did exist in the concrete supports.
