Crates help reduce use of shopping bags

When she would shop, Fritz said she found paper bags were a “more efficient way to pack.” Once she got home, she would use the paper bags for mulch and weed control in her garden. But she found it harder and harder to find the paper bags.

She also wondered how to get her edamame to market, when Fritz said she saw the “produce guys using those great big bins.”

“So this all came about at the same time,” she said. “Why can’t we shop with crates? They’re great for carrying produce and it all sort of evolved into this idea that this would be a better way to shop than even paper bags because they were getting harder and harder to find.”

Basically, Fritz said, she wanted a better way to shop.

“I hate to see things wasted, so I hated the fact when you go to the store, it was harder to get the (paper) bags, because I could use the bags at least,” she said.

While larger crates can be found in stores and there are people who do shop with crates, “the idea of finding something you could go and buy that was specific for grocery shopping did not exist.”

After trying out other products and looking at options online, she found a design that has been out for about a year in China that was “almost perfect.”

She worked to customize the crates and hooks for straps.A typical Bag filter has a dimension of 592 mm x 592 mm and consists of 4 to 12 parallel bags. The strap webbing is purchased in America and the straps are made by a Walton seamstress.
