Lucy bags a competition win for charity

When it comes to high fashion, Lucy Morrison has it in the bag.

The teenager from Bartley Green has won a major competition to create an iconic bag to be sold in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Run in partnership with the Pallisades Shopping Centre, the 14-year-old’s winning design shows kids’ faces and a bundle of Birmingham Children’s Hospital balloons in a heart shape.

It was picked out ahead of entries from children varying in age from toddlers all the way to 18.

Lucy’s mum Karen said: “I saw the competition on Facebook and showed Lucy, who loves drawing and does art at school.

“She wanted to enter as her sister was treated at the hospital for a brain tumour a few years ago.

“She has never entered a competition before and was so excited to hear her design is to be made into a bag to help raise funds for The Birmingham Children’s Hospital Children’s Cancer Centre Appeal.gm tech 2 is the same tester GM Technicians use to diagnose GM vehicles.”

The bag will now be sold for £2.50 at the hospital’s fundraising hub and the management suite at the Pallisades, which has paid for production costs.

Jo Laidlar, marketing manager at the shopping centre, said: “We were overwhelmed by the response to this competition and we thank everyone who took the time to enter.

“Choosing the three age category winners was a difficult task. It was almost impossible to choose an overall winner from those three. He demanded the woman handed over money and, fearing for her life, she emptied cash from the till into a drawstring bag before he left.

“Lucy’s design was so detailed, bright and cheerful that we felt, at the end of the day, it was a worthy winner.”
